Rock’n'Roll Classes
The Cambridge Dancers’ Club runs three Rock’n'Roll classes, covering the authentic 50s style of Rock’n'Roll, a modern adaptation with flashy kicks, and the acrobatic moves that make Rock’n'Roll so popular and impressive. Classes start again in the last week of April, exact dates TBC.
See the CDC website for full details about classes, membership, prices, and venues.
Mondays 7pm, Parkside Hall
Authentic Footwork classes teach the 50s style of Rock’n'Roll that you’ve no doubt seen in films. It’s a very social step, requiring less energy than the modern style of Rock’n'Roll that the team demonstrate and compete with. Performed to slower music, authentic steps look stylish and won’t make you break a sweat.
Beginners: Mondays 8pm, Parkside Hall. Improvers: Wednesdays 7:30, Parkside Hall
Continental Footwork is the style used in Rock’n'Roll dancing in modern day competitions and demonstrations. It is a very energetic step, based upon sharp kicks, and has a bit of a bounce to it. Performed to faster music, continental footwork is very impressive. Continental steps can be combined with acrobatic moves to make a breath-taking routine. We run both beginners sessions, for those of you new to the style, and an improvers class for those looking for something more advanced.
Mondays, 9pm, Parkside Gym
Acrobatic moves are great fun. Contrary to popular belief, anybody can try out acrobatic moves in our class, all taught clearly and safely. The moves vary in difficulty from a simple cartwheel to the crowd-pleasing “Dirty Dancing” (seen in the picture above). If you come along for just one term to the acrobatic class, you will develop a repertoire of over 10 simple acrobatic moves with which to impress your friends.
